Asbestos Awareness Training
Asbestos is by far the single biggest cause of work-related death in Britain. On average eleven deaths occur each day as a result of previous workplace exposure to asbestos, and far greater numbers suffer from chronic ill-health. Asbestos was widely used in buildings until 2000, so a wide range of workers are still at risk today. In particular, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and builders who may be involved in refurbishment or alterations, and anyone involved in facilities management, may be at risk.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 build upon earlier legislation and require employers to provide mandatory training for all those at risk of exposure, as well as placing a duty to manage asbestos on the person or organisation responsible for the maintenance and repair of all non-domestic premises
Our 2 hour awareness course is intended for tradesmen and others, to protect them from accidental exposure to asbestos as they go about their work. It will also help supervisors and managers to recognise their legal obligations in this regard.
Based upon the guidance set out in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L143, the course covers:-
- The scale of the health problem
- the nature of asbestos and why it is harmful
- how and where asbestos was used, and how it is recognised
- importance of the Asbestos Register
- Legal requirements - Licensed and Non-licensed work
- Sensible precautions and PPE
- Action on discovery of suspicious materials
- Sources of further advice and guidance
To deliver this course to a group of staff on your premises, the cost would be £250 + vat for the group, to which a travel charge may apply, depending upon the location. The cost includes course handouts and certificates of training for all participants.
